Getting Started

No you don’t, but should you wish to purchase on our website, then you will need to register.

On the Home Page, you will see the ‘Login’ button at the top right-hand side of the screen. Follow the steps to create your profile, which will enable you to submit your information to buy from TechMarkit.

Selling your Device(s) to TechMarkit

At the moment TechMarkit is only using the convenient ‘Click and Sell’ online option on this website.

At this stage, we are only accepting Windows laptops.

Unfortunately, only devices in good working order will be accepted for sale.

Yes, we’ve listed below what devices are accepted.

• Computers with an Intel i3, i5 or i7 processor, 4th Generation or higher;
• Celeron N3000 or higher;
• AMD Ryzen 3, 5 and 7, 2nd Generation or higher.
In addition, your computer must be in good working order.

Firstly, your device must be in good working condition with all working parts being free of defects. Examples of these parts are computing hardware, screen hinges, the webcam, the keyboard trackpad and so on.

Secondly, from a cosmetic or appearance point of view, you should ideally have very few or no scratches and dents.

Finally, your device must pass our verification checks to ensure that it is not a stolen item.

Yes, we will buy it if the external surfaces are scratched, but NOT if the screen has dead pixels. If there are light or minor scratches, we will make a determination on if it is acceptable for re-sale.

We will test your battery capacity when we do a diagnostic evaluation on your device. If we find that this reading is low, we will have to replace the battery so that the next person who gets your device will have a good experience using it.

If you want a Quick Estimate for your kind of device, you can do this immediately using the Value Table shown here.

If you like what you see, then complete the special form to provide your information to get a formal Quotation. You will get a reply within 48 hours.

You can begin paperwork online
over the weekend, but please only expect a response during normal business hours.

If you decide to send in your device for a full evaluation, courier collections also only take place during normal business hours.

The Quick Estimate using the Value Table shows a standard value for specific devices in A+ condition. If you would like to get an accurate valuation, there are a few easy steps to follow. Have a look here for the 5-step complete process or here for the Help Guide.

Any difference between the Value Table amount and the formal evaluation will arise from the standard specifications shown in the Value Table and those of your own device, or if there is a discrepancy between the specs on your device. compared to the Value table.

Please remember that all quoted prices include vat, unless otherwise specified.

You will need the following documents to finalise a sale between you and TechMarkit:

a. Confirmation of your bank details (not older than 3 months).
b. A certified copy of your SA ID document or foreign passport. You must be 18 years or older to be able to buy or sell with TechMarkit.
c. Proof of residence no older than 3 months.
d. Completion and signature of the National Vat form. In terms of the Second Hand Goods Act, this form must be completed and signed by the Seller (you) so that the VAT-Registered Buyer (TechMarkit) fulfils their tax obligations correctly.

TechMarkit is constantly in touch with market pricing on computers and other devices.

When the estimators are able to inspect your device and do a thorough diagnostic, as well as checking the physical condition of your device, they will be able to give you a valuation/Quotation.

Please remember that all quoted prices include vat, unless otherwise specified

When TechMarkit has inspected your device and produced a formal Quotation, a 7-day Price Lock kicks in. During this period you can accept or decline the offer but the quoted price won’t change.

We will return your device via courier to the collection address which you stipulated in your online sales application.

You will be paid by EFT (electronic funds transmission) into the bank account provided when you uploaded your final documentation.

If your laptop has a locking account in place eg Windows Lock or Bitlocker, the payment process will only begin once this account has been unlocked after communication with you.

If you choose a voucher in order to trade in your device for something newer on the TechMarkit website, you can use this method instead.

After accepting our offer (cash option or vouchers that you can use to buy on the TechMarkit website or in-store) it will take up to 14 working days to get paid.

If your laptop has a locking account in place eg Windows Lock or Bitlocker, the payment process will only begin once this account has been unlocked after communication with you.

Part of our standard procedures is to perform due diligence or security checks on devices to ensure that the item is not stolen or a lost device. Only owner-assured products are accepted.

In terms of the Second Hand Goods Act of 2009, if we suspect any products have been stolen, it is a condition of our Licence that we report the matter to the SAPS.

This all depends on timing. If TechMarkit has already submitted the payment request to their bank, or if the transaction has been finalised and payment is reflected in your account, then it will be too late to change your mind.

If, however, you are still in the process of submitting your final documents, you can alert TechMarkit immediately regarding this change in your decision.

TechMarkit will return your device by courier to your nominated address per the Shipping Policywhich explains the location timelines.

Until you have approved the Quotation or Offer to Purchase, TechMarkit will not intentionally delete any data in their diagnostic analysis.

Once you have approved the Quotation and the selling process is on the go, TechMarkit will reset your device to factory defaults and undertake a full wipe of data.

If you do not approve the final Quotation, TechMarkit will return the device in the same state in which it was received, but cannot be held accountable for any inadvertent data loss.

Please note that if we receive a device with a SIM or memory card enclosed it will be destroyed. This offers you a safeguard in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act (PoPIA).

Yes, the price indicated in the written Quotation acts as the formal offer to purchase.

Please remember that all quoted prices include vat, unless otherwise specified.

If you decide to sell your computer to TechMarkit, you can choose to receive a TechMarkit voucher instead of cash. You can then use the voucher as a full or part-payment or discount on a purchase from the TechMarkit website.

It’s easy to use a TechMarkit voucher - all you need to do is apply the voucher code once you have finalised your shopping Cart and want to go to the Checkout. The value of the voucher will be deducted from the total amount owing.

Before sending in your device(s)

When you send in your device, we recommend that you back-up all your data in order to ensure that you lose nothing. You also need to log out of your Windows, Samsung or iCloud accounts and remove any SIM cards or memory cards. We cannot be held liable for any information which is lost when we conduct our diagnostics and assessments.

Use bubble wrap around each item (computer, charger, cables etc) and put them into a sturdy box with newspaper in any gaps. If you have your original packaging/box, then please use that. Boxing your device will help keep it in good condition for shipping and safer during handling.

Depending on what you are sending us will depend on the packaging method.

If you are packing a laptop and the charger, these should be wrapped individually (see packaging instructions in this section) and put into the same box.

If you have multiple products that you have requested separate estimates on, then each device and its components should be packed in their own container. The various containers can then be put into one or more transport boxes, which will be handled by the Courier.

Taking the trouble to pack diligently will help to avoid confusion when the items are received by TechMarkit.

Other General Questions

TechMarkit will cover your device for the insured value as submitted in your Application form, excluding the value of any data. Should you decline to sell your device, the replacement value per TechMarkit’s assessment will be used as the value for insurance cover when the device is returned to you.

The onus is, however, on you to ensure that you pack your device securely and safely before transportation. See more here about packing your device safely for transportation.

For your peace of mind, every parcel received from customers containing their device will be opened using a special surveillance process. This means that the device you send us and listed in the Application form should be the same one we receive.

Regrettably, we are unable to buy your device if you are live outside SA. Please be aware that we do, however, purchase products, originally bought overseas, from local SA residents.

Have a look at our helpful Guideto find technical information on your computer.

This imageshows you how to do this.

Once you complete the online form to get a Quotation on your device, the response from TechMarkit will include the reference number. You can request this number again should you lose it. Remember to include this number in all correspondence.
