Buying from TechMarkit

Pre-owned devices (laptops, desktops, monitors, tablets, phones, e-readers) are products that have been owned by someone else before being made available for purchase by somebody else.

At TechMarkit all pre-owned devices are subject to a stringent quality assessment to determine the device's condition. If required, devices are put through a refurbishment process to bring you a product you'll be happy using. The device is then graded so you know the physical condition of the device you are buying.
By comparison, a brand-new device is just that - a new machine that has never been used and is ready for its first owner.

Yes, where required, Pre-Owned products are restored to complete functionality for the new TechMarkit works with reputable companies, authorised distributors and private individuals to obtain Pre-Owned devices for refurbishment. We keep an eye on the quality and functionality, making it easy for you to buy some of the best pre-loved tech products, all with a 6-month TechMarkit Warranty.

Products are obtained from primarily two sources:
(a) From reputable companies and authorised distributors.

(b) From private customers who have traded-in their product.

Tech products are very popular. There are many items available on the TechMarkit website where stocks are limited.
If you select a product for purchase and put it in your Cart but don’t pay for it, someone else may also do the same. Just because it is in your Cart, it does not mean that the product is removed from availability on the system.
If someone else pays for the same product before you do, you could lose out. In order to avoid frustration please try and make sure that if you want a particular product which is in short supply (only one or two available) you put it in your Cart and pay for it right away.
In the event of a product being 'oversold' we will contact you to help you change your order, or process a refund.

Product Info

If you see the word ‘core’ in the computer description, this is what it means.A core may refer to any of the following:
• A core, or CPU cor,e is the "brain" of a CPU (Central Processing Unit of your computer/device). It receives instructions and performs calculations or operations to satisfy those instructions. A CPU can have multiple cores.
• A processor with two cores is called a dual-core processor; one with four cores is called a quad-core; six cores are called hexa-core and eight cores, octa-core.
• Each core of a CPU can perform operations separately from the others. Multiple cores may work together to perform parallel operations on a shared set of data in the CPU's memory cache.

Today, the Intel® Core™ processor series includes the brand modifiers i3, i5, i7, and i9. Higher brand modifier numbers offer a higher level of performance and, in some cases, additional features (like Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology, which allows processors to work more efficiently). For example, within a given processor family, an i7 will outperform an i5, which will outperform an i3.

However, when assessing which computer to buy, you should consider all the specifications, including the Generation of the device, as the more recent generations of a processor present buyers with more optimised performance. Weigh up the brand modifier (i5 or i7 for example) vs the Generation (G7 or G4 for example). As a rule of thumb, a higher core with a ‘higher’ generation would be a better buy, but you also need to consider your requirements and your budget.

This is a brand name given by Intel to a number of different entry-level computer microprocessor models, targeted at low-cost personal computers. They tend to have a smaller cache (temporary memory), that uses less power and therefore leads to lower cost (to produce and to buy). This does come with lower performance when compared, for example, with a Pentium processor.
Celeron class computers are generally good for basic-use scenarios and buyers tend to go with dual core CPUs because of cost.
The various processors are listed here in priority of speed:
N4000
N3160
N3350
N3060

Pentium Silver is a family of 64-bit x86, low-power microprocessors introduced by Intel in late 2017, succeeding the Pentium family in the low-power market segment. Pentium Silver is based on Intel's micro-architecture in this category.

Intel and AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) are two of the biggest names in technology responsible for the chips that power millions of computers, graphics cards, servers and other devices.

Cache is the temporary memory officially termed “CPU cache memory.” This chip-based feature of your computer lets you access some information more quickly than if you access it from your computer's main hard drive.

The concept of generations came about after the release of the Intel Core i-Series and relates to the device’s processor. The main difference in processor generations is the way the micro-architecture is put together, so that a newer generation has a more enhanced set of features and better speed, compared with previous generations.

To measure a laptop screen size take a measuring tape and start measuring from the bottom left of the laptop screen diagonally to the top right of the laptop screen. That is your laptop size.

A touch screen allows you to use the screen of a notebook in a similar fashion to using a tablet or iPad. A touch 360 is just a fancy way of describing a notebook where the screen can flip back 360 degrees.

eMMC
An Embedded Multimedia Card, or eMMC, is more affordable and slower, flash-based storage than solid state drives. eMMC is usually found in smartphones and other consumer electronics devices but it's also used in personal computers. In everyday use, performance of eMMC storage is somewhere between speed of HDDs and SSDs.
HDD
HDD stands for hard disk drive. This is the traditional storage device for personal computers and was developed based on rotating magnetic platters (or disks) and reading heads. Compared with other drives, HDDs have longer system boot-up times, slower application and file loading, as well as slower file copy-and-paste command execution.
Hybrid Drive
A hybrid hard drive is a storage drive that combines the large storage capacity of an HDD with the faster read/write speed of an SSD.
A hybrid hard drive is, for the most part, a hard disk drive but also has a solid-state drive attached to it.
Data can be written onto either the HDD or the SSD, but it is allocated according to your computing or usage habits.
SSD
An SSD (solid state drive) performs the same basic function as a hard drive, but data is instead stored on interconnected flash-memory chips that retain the data even when there's no power flowing through them. These flash chips also called "NAND" are of a different type than the kind used in USB thumb drives, or data sticks, and are typically faster and more reliable.
NVMe
This stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express and is the standard hardware interface for solid state drives (SSDs). It was introduced in 2011 by the NVM Express Group and supports speeds up to six times faster than SSDs and 10 times faster than standard hard drives. The benefits are seen when reading and writing large files.

The simple answer is that a full HD monitor displays with 1080 pixels of image resolution, but an HD-ready one displays with 720 pixels. When it comes to display screens more pixels are better, so that your picture is more defined at the larger screen size. For example, HD-ready gives you fewer total pixels (approx. 1 million) vs 2 million with full HD.

Yes, where required, Pre-Owned products are restored to complete functionality for the newTechMarkit works with reputable companies, authorised distributors and private individuals to obtain Pre-Owned devices for refurbishment. We keep an eye on the quality and functionality, making it easy for you to buy some of the best pre-loved tech products, all with a 6-month TechMarkit Warranty.

TechMarkit’s pre-owned products are 100% functional when you purchase them. Due to some of these products being previously owned, aesthetic conditions can vary, so we have designed a product condition guideto help guide your decision across four grading options.

If you purchase a brand-new product it will look good and work well.
When purchasing a pre-owned product it may show signs of use. Please refer to our Gradingin the Condition Guide to find out more about the condition of Pre-Owned items.

All TechMarkit products fall into one of five grades of product:
NewThe product is brand-new, has not been used and carries a full manufacturer's Warranty.
A+The product is in pristine condition. There are no noticeable scratches on the product. The screen is without scratches. The product carries a full TechMarkit Warranty.
AThe product is in excellent condition with only light signs of use. The screen and body are in very good condition. There are slight scratches that are barely visible. The product carries a full TechMarkit Warranty.
BThis product has moderate cosmetic signs of wear and tear. There are some visible scratches, nicks and possibly one minor dent. The product carries a full TechMarkit Warranty.
CVisible signs of wear and tear, scratches and possibly some dents. The product is fully functional and is covered by a full TechMarkit Warranty.

These grades relate to both the technical condition of your product, as well as the aesthetics or physical appearance.
TechMarkit does a thorough assessment of all pre-owned devices and, where required, refurbishes or supplies new parts so you get the most out of your purchase. This is all contained in our Condition Guide.

If you think your device doesn't match its aesthetic grade, you can re-check the grade you ordered and compare it to the Condition Guidehere.
As a reminder, each Pre-Owned product sold on TechMarkit is classified according to an aesthetic grade determined at our initial assessment.
If you still have a query within the first 24 hours of receipt please use one of the contact forms we offer. Simply click the black&white Support button on the bottom right of your web page to choose a suitable form.

Ideally, you should provide photographic evidence that the product you received is not per the Grade you ordered.

When an accessory is sold with the product it is indicated in the technical specifications on the product page. It will always be compatible with your device.
For example, Smartphones are always supplied with a charger, but earphones are not. For laptops, the charger always comes with the device.
With many of our pre-owned products, the accessories are not the originals but are always fully compatible. Rest assured that they work just as well as the original accessories and are subject to the same Warranty conditions as the product.
If an accessory is missing when you receive delivery of your purchase, please send us an email right away.

One of the checks TechMarkit does when assessing a device is to check battery life. We only sell devices with a 75% or higher battery life.

Yes waterproofing is maintained on those phone models which provide for this. If, for any reason, the waterproofing is no longer applicable, the product specification will indicate this.

Only brand-new products may be sent to you in their original packaging.
If the original packaging on pre-owned devices is acceptable or up to standard, the product will arrive in its original packaging. If not, then you will receive your purchase in a plain TechMarkit box.
Both types of products are put into a special courier box for delivery.

The information about the technical characteristics of each product is listed in the information provided on each product. If you are looking for something specific we advise you to contact the manufacturer directly so that they can provide you with accurate and up-to-date information.

Firstly, there may be a limited-time special offer running on one or more products on the website and this will lower the selling price.
Secondly, as you may have seen elsewhere on this website, each Pre-Owned product is quality assessed according to our system of Grading. The aesthetic appearance of a product has a significant impact on its price (the A Grade will thus be more expensive than a B or C Grade).
Note:Grades only reflect a product's looks not its function. All our products function for the purpose they were intended.

With the release of new iPhones and iPads, some older models will not be able to update to the newest iOS and will no longer receive support from Apple. It can get confusing with all the iOS version numbers and model numbers, but each product description on the website indicates which iOS has been pre-loaded.

3. Your bank is authenticating your order.

After waiting 24 hours and you have not received an order confirmation, please click on the black & white Help button (or the Question Mark icon if you are accessing this site on your cellphone) at the bottom right of your screen to contact us.

Once your purchase has been packed up our warehouse staff, it is sent to the courier who delivers it to you at the address you specified. Despite all efforts to be careful, sometimes packages become damaged during transport.

Before the courier leaves, check the following:

1. Condition of the package

Check if the package is damaged or looks abnormal.

2. Status of the product

Check to see if the product is broken, damaged, not in accordance with the grade you ordered, or incomplete in any way.

If so, write on the delivery note the problems you encountered during inspection and/or refuse the goods.

Thereafter, once the courier has left, notify us if:

a) The product is defective or broken;

Unfortunately, this can and does happen on occasion with the transportation of orders.

You should declare the damage to the courier when the package arrives so you can refuse to accept it. If, however, you were unable to reject the package, you can reach out to us directly.

In order to resolve the situation, we need to open an investigation.

To do this, we ask that you report the damaged delivery as soon as possible (within a maximum of 24 hours following receipt) by following the steps below:

What is a blacklisted phone?

When someone doesn't pay their cellphone bill, or if someone reports their device as lost or stolen, the network will blacklist the device, which will make it unusable with a phone plan or contract.

How is it possible for TechMarkit to miss that my device was blacklisted?

Only the cellphone networks in South Africa have access to the list of blacklisted phones. Part of TechMarkit’s stringent assessment process will be to check that the phone has not been blacklisted, so you receiving a blacklisted phone should be a rare occurrence.

If you have any concerns, please Contact Us to send us a message.

Provide the answer to the question here.

If you've just placed an order and have pangs of regret already, then you need to contact TechMarkit right away. Please note that if the order is already in the delivery process, you will not be able to cancel, which means you then have to reject delivery.

If your order is in the "Checkout" phase, it means that you have not yet paid for it and you can simply remove the item from your Cart.

If you realise that the address you provided is incorrect or if you need to adjust it - then it's a little tricky, depending on the timing of order processing. Contact usimmediately if you need more help.

If you encounter a problem with your device and wish to return it, please check if it is still under Warranty or not.

If it is under Warranty, send an email with all details and photos to warranty@techmarkit.co.za.

Do remember that if your product has been subjected to significant impact damage, oxidation or has been opened by a third party, it will not be covered by the manufacturer’s Warranty nor by the TechMarkit Warranty in the case of a pre-owned item purchase.

Please read more here about any Warranty exclusions.

Please note: TechMarkit is NOT currently accepting out-of-warranty repairs.

When returning a product to TechMarkit, it is recommended to follow these steps:

Step 1: To make the return process as smooth as possible, please first take pictures of the product from all angles before sending it back. Doing this will protect you from potential problems that may occur during the transport back to TechMarkit. If you are returning a cellphone, a screenshot showing that your phone is factory reset will lead to a smoother return process.

Step 2: Log out and remove the user account of your device, as well as any open links to your Microsoft and/or Apple/iCloud account(s).

NOTES

(a) It is not necessary to manually delete your contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photos or any other information when you are connected to your account (iCloud, Google, Samsung, etc.). This could result in the permanent deletion of your contents from the servers and any devices you have connected.

(b) Failure to log out of your iCloud account or Google Play account may result in your return not being accepted. If you forget to do this before returning the product, you may need to provide TechMarkit with your login info in order to proceed with the repair, exchange or refund. Although this information will be deleted after the procedure as TechMarkit is compliant with POPIA legislation, it is safer not to have to provide these details!

Step 3: Before sending your order back to TechMarkit, it's important to protect and package it as best as you can:

a. Make sure that the device is safely and securely protected. Re-use bubble wrap or other suitable packaging to protect the device and then fill in any empty space in the box with crumpled newspaper. If you still have your original packaging, you can use that.

b. If you are returning the package with your own courier, be sure to hand it to a person in order to get a tracking receipt. To make sure we process your return, we need to be able to track the package during its entire journey.

Step 4: Send the tracking number to help@techmarkit.co.za. If you have noted on the Return form you submitted that TechMarkit must collect, then we will be in touch with you.

At this stage, TechMarkit does not offer loan or temporary devices whilst your product is in for a repair under Warranty.

Refunds only qualify for returns made within the qualifying period. See more in our Returns, Refunds & Exchanges section.

After this time, your order will still be covered under our 6-month Warranty for pre-owned products, or the manufacturer’s Warranty for new products. After the first 30-days, orders covered by the Warranty are only eligible for repair or replacement, unless otherwise communicated.

The turnaround period will depend on why you are returning your purchase, but you will be kept informed all along the way.
